In "Crabe," Batista presents a mesmerizing depiction of a crab, rendered with meticulous detail and infused with layers of meaning. Through his use of diverse materials such as resin, concrete, and perhaps wood, Batista brings the crustacean to life in a dynamic and evocative manner.

The artwork's title, "Crabe," immediately directs the viewer's attention to the subject matter, yet Batista's interpretation goes beyond mere representation. The crab, a creature often associated with resilience, adaptability, and hidden depths, serves as a metaphor for various aspects of the human condition.

About the artist

Helder Batista

Born in Paris in 1964, Helder Batista is a self-taught artist who developed his practice through evening classes at the École des Beaux-Arts. His approach to materials is radical and wide-ranging, resin, concrete, wood, neon, oil and acrylic all appear in his work, sometimes within the same piece. The result is an abstract expressionist practice that is deeply personal and deliberately ambiguous: symbolic rather than literal, emotional rather than decorative. His paintings invite interpretation rather than offering easy answers, making each encounter with his work genuinely different.
