Gold is where it all begins. Covella lays down a warm, luminous ground that breathes through the entire composition, threading itself downward in fine vertical drips — like light filtered through the canopy of a garden in full bloom.
Over that gilded base, the painting erupts in soft, gestural marks of lavender, blush, mint and fuchsia. The brushwork is loose and instinctive, suggesting flowers without ever spelling them out. Verbena in its truest sense: wild, abundant, unapologetically alive.
What makes this work quietly remarkable is its balance. The warmth of the gold holds the cooler lilacs in place. The occasional burst of deep pink keeps the palette from drifting into pure sweetness. Everything vibrates, but nothing feels out of control.
