The work is impressive in scale, spanning a wide expanse of space. As you approach, you're drawn into the lighthearted energy of the beachgoers, their laughter almost audible. The people are rendered with meticulous detail and depth, their textured clothing, sun hats, and carefree gestures bringing an uncanny realism to the scene. Each figure has their own narrative, from the children making sandcastles, to the couple strolling hand-in-hand along the water’s edge, to the lone artist capturing the beautiful view in his canvas.

About the artist

Nuria Miró

Nuria Miro was born in Alicante in 1961 and grew up in the old town, between the Castillo de Santa Barbara and the sea. Those childhood hours spent watching clouds throw shadows across the coast are still in her painting: long shadows, sun-bleached colour and a nostalgia that is difficult to manufacture. She shares adjoining studios with her husband, the painter Antonio Garcia Soler, and their daughter Nuria Garcia Miro is a painter too.
