About the artist

Leonardo Lanzolla

Leonardo Lanzolla was born and trained in Turin and has lived and worked in Seattle since 1986. He is a self-taught painter who starts without a plan, letting the paint suggest a shape before he commits to it. What comes out is a cast of characters and creatures that feel spontaneous and completely his own. His references run from Cobra and art brut to Klee, Miró, Dubuffet and Basquiat. He has exhibited in the United States, France and Sweden, and his paintings are held in private collections across America.
