A green and blue eye framed by long black lashes looks out from the lower wing, on a gradient that runs from yellow through green to deep blue. On the upper wing a yellow sphere dotted in black sits above bold black and blue stripes, and a small black dot marks the edge of each wing. The butterfly rests on a black daisy with glossy petals, its polished black body and fine antennae just above a speckled centre, on a slim stem that rises from a round black base. The artist's signature sits on the lower wing.

About the artist

Pineda Mariscal

Pineda Mariscal was born in Spain in 1985 and is recognised for his colourful three-dimensional wall sculptures, particularly his metal butterflies. His work explores transformation, freedom and movement through vibrant colour, sculptural form and highly polished surfaces. He began exhibiting at 14, and his sculpture Sueño is in the permanent collection of the Carmen Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Andorra.
