Belang

Belang built her technique herself, borrowing from master painters and from years spent working alongside other artists in workshops, and ended up with something unmistakably her own. You recognise a Belang from across a room: bold brushwork, colour turned all the way up, and a sense of movement that carries the energy of whatever she was looking at.

She works alla prima, laying pure colour straight onto canvases she prepares herself, which is where the warmth and the depth of her surfaces come from. She is drawn to scenes with life in them, and she works exclusively on large-scale commissions. Her current body of work takes the natural world as its starting point, and it is calmer than what came before without losing any of the intensity.

Her paintings hang in private galleries across Europe.
