Toni Bardet, contemporary artist represented by Jaloe Art Gallery

Toni Bardet

Toni Bardet grew up in a family of artists, started painting as a child and was working as a full-time artist by the age of sixteen. His work has moved with him ever since, and it has never been decorative: painting is how he processes what happens to him.

A period of serious personal crisis changed both his life and his practice. Painting stopped being only a form of expression and became a refuge, a way of channelling what had no other outlet, and that shift pushed him to look for new languages and to dig further into his own identity.

London made the work more visceral. Surrounded by the mix and the energy of the city, his brushwork got harder and his palette bolder. Los Angeles took it further still. The light, the ocean and the local scene led him to neo-expressionism, a raw and instinctive way of painting that gave him the freedom he had been circling.

Back in Spain, his work now combines technique and instinct, structure and chaos, and goes after the subconscious through colour and gesture. He has exhibited in galleries and international events in Spain, Japan, Panama, California and the United Kingdom.
