Tamara
Fanny Tamara Cortondo, who signs her work as Tamara, calls herself a colourist and means it literally. She believes colour carries healing energy, a vibration capable of shifting the state you arrive in and pulling something brighter out of you, and every decision she makes on a surface follows from that.
She lives on Ibiza, and the island does most of the work of inspiring her: the light, the energy, the particular cheerfulness of the place. The seabed around it is the other half. Its forms, its colours and the sheer amount of life down there run through her imagery again and again.
Her project, El Taller de Tamara, is where that universe takes shape. Dreamlike images, underwater landscapes, corals and animals, all of it built to raise a little more awareness about nature and the world around us. She wants you to come away with a sense of harmony and of respect for what she is painting.
Everything is made entirely by hand, from the first sketch to the last mark. Her process combines sensitivity, technique and a good deal of experimentation, across watercolour, ink, pigment, acrylic, paper, canvas, collage and wood. What comes out is vibrant and unmistakably personal, with colour as the true protagonist and as the vehicle for everything else: emotion, hope, and a real connection to the natural world.
