Two very different energies meet on this staircase and landing: Fernanz's soft, patterned dots against Helder Batista's loud, gestural marks. It's the kind of pairing that keeps you looking twice. Fernanz's canvas sits on the stairs, its dusty pinks and greens picking up the daylight from the windows above. At the top, Batista's piece takes over with heavy black outlines and bright bursts of blue and orange, built up in thick strokes you can read from a distance and still find something new in up close. Together they turn a stretch of the house people usually walk straight through into somewhere worth slowing down for.
