Judith Galiza, contemporary artist represented by Jaloe Art Gallery

Judith Galiza

Judith Galiza was born in Ourense in 1976, into a family of artists. Her father is the Galician watercolourist Xavier Galiza, who was also her mentor, and her own style ended up being considerably more insolent than his. She studied painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Pontevedra.

Her first career was elsewhere. She worked in audiovisual communication and sports marketing, painting alongside it, until 2014, when she left and gave herself to painting completely.

She left the watercolour behind with it. Her surface now is canvas, worked with acrylic and oil, brush and palette knife, and the results are abstract landscapes and blurred cities that look as though they were painted at speed and under pressure. Layering, dripping and splattering give her the texture and the depth; vivid contrasting colour gives the movement. The recurring subject underneath all of it is the pull between chaos and order, which she balances by setting spontaneous marks against compositions that are anything but accidental.

Her work is held in galleries and private collections in Spain, Portugal and the United States.
